How to Bypass a Wireless Network Adapter
While there's no denying the convenience of being wireless, it's not a bad idea to use an Ethernet cable whenever possible.
While using a wireless adapter to connect to the Internet
eliminates the need for unsightly Ethernet cables, it does have its
downside. Wireless networks have bandwidth limitations, taking some of
the speed out of a user’s high-speed Internet access. They’re subject to
interference from a variety of common devices that use radio
frequencies, such as cordless phones and microwaves. And, if you’re
using a laptop computer, you’ll find its battery needs to be recharged
more frequently when you are connected using a wireless signal. So even
if you need to be mobile at times, it’s not a bad idea to plug in an
Ethernet cable whenever the opportunity arises. If, after doing so, your
computer insists on defaulting to the wireless connection, bypassing
the wireless adapter is a relatively simple task.

- Many laptop computers allow users to bypass the wireless network adapter simply by flipping a switch. If you're using a laptop and you're not sure if your model is equipped with one, check its documentation.
- If you use an external antenna to connect to your wireless network, try unplugging it. Your operating system, upon finding the external antenna it to be unavailable, oftentimes will search for another valid connection on its own.
