How to Fix "Host process for windows services stopped working and was closed"

Don’t you just love crazy Windows errors? In this post, I’ll be going through some steps you can take to fix the “Host process for windows services stopped working and was closed” error message in Windows Vista.
I’ve already written about a few, such as “there no active mixer devices available” error message and “Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close” and “runonce.msn.com runonce2.aspx error in IE7. Too many to mention!
Sadly, most of these error messages are cryptic to the core and give you no insight into what the problem actually is. When getting the Host process error you might also notice that your Internet connection in Vista slows down considerably and you might have to constantly restart the computer to fix it.
This error seems to happen due to some incompatibility between a program on your computer and Windows Vista. It could be a lot of different applications, so you first have to determine which program is actually causing the problem. You can do this by viewing the Event Logs on your Vista machine. Here’s how.
First go to Start and go to the Control Panel.
vista control panel
Now depending on your view, you can either click on Administrative Tools if you are in Classic view or click on System and Maintenance if you are in Vista view.
system and maintenance
administrative tools
If you are in Classic view, you will see an icon for Event Logs and in Vista view you will see at the very bottom a link called “View event logs“.
view event logs
Now you’ll want to browse through the Windows Logs folder and view the Application and System logs.
application event log
You should now look for events with red X’s next to them and that have the word Error. Look for them around the same time or before you got the “Host process for Windows stopped working” error message.

Method 1

Some people have had this issue with ATI Catalyst Control Center and found numerous errors in their event log. You can then try to find an update for the program or uninstall it if it is not needed. You might also have this problem with Windows Defender, so try to find an update for that. Also uninstall useless HP printer software, and check for other events from Nero, etc.

Method 2

It could also be caused by an incompatible driver installed on Windows. This could be for any piece of hardware on your system. You can figure out if it’s a hardware issue by booting up in Safe Mode and seeing if you get the error. If it’s not there, then it’s definitely some driver that’s being loaded when Windows starts up.

Method 3

If that didn’t do anything, you might be having an issue with the Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) Windows service. If you starting getting this message after you did a Windows update, then BITS could be the culprit. You’ll need to follow the instructions in this Microsoft KB article on how to repair the corrupt BITS files.

Method 4

If you see an error in your Event logs that has EMDMgmt, then your issue might be caused by a thumb drive or some other external memory device, like a memory card reader. For some strange reason, you might have to connect the camera to your computer directly rather than using a card reader.

Method 5

This could also be caused by a faulty RAM memory stick in your computer. You might want to run a full diagnostic on your computer to make sure your RAM does not have errors on it. If you find a memory chip with errors, take it out and see if you get the error message. You can download a free app called Memtest86 to test the memory on your computer for errors.
Hopefully one of these methods fixed the Host process for Windows has stopped working. If not, post a comment and I’ll try to help! Good luck!

How to get anyones IP..

Photo: How to get anyones IP..

In this guide i will teach you how to create your own website so you can send it to other people and get their ip address. Once a person has clicked on your link, his ip address will be logged.

First you will need to sign up on a free hosting website where you are also given a free domain.
So, sign up on http://www.byethost/ .com

Your domain will be something like: http://www.username/. byethost12. com

After you register, you will receive an email containing your domain details including the cpanel. Your domain will be included in this.

Go to the cpanel and click Online file Manager.

Then click on htdocs.

Click on New File and enter the following code and save the file as index.php :

<?php
$IP = $_SERVER['REMOTE_ADDR'];
$p = fopen("iplogs.txt", "a");

fwrite($p, $IP);
fwrite($p, "
");

DONT FORGET TO SAVE AS INDEX.PHP!!

NOTE: That is where you enter the website code. So you can add any pictures or anything you like above the code i gave you instead of having a blank website.

Then create another file, but this time leave it blank and save it as iplogs.txt

Everything is ready! Now can start giving your link to people and get thier ip! The ip adresses are saved in the empty text file we created named iplogs.txt So if your domain is : username. byethost12 .com , you can view your logs on username. byethost12 .com/iplogs.txt Great! Now you have your own Ip Logger! Now if you need to clone your website to not leave it blank, simply go to the website you want. Simply right click on the website, view source, copy all the code and paste it in the file called index.php above the current code and save.

How to send SMS from VB.Net using HTTP requsts

Download: send-sms-vb.net-http-sms-example.zip (106 Kb)

This guide will provide you information on how to send and receive SMS messages using HTTP requests from a VB.Net application. The information provided here can be used to send SMS messages through your own SMS Gateway (e.g.: Ozeki NG SMS Gateway), or you can modify this code to connect to any HTTP SMS Service provider over the Internet.

Introduction

Visual Basic .Net is an excellent programming language for creating dynamic web pages and standard applications. It offers great flexibility in all fields. VB.Net developers are often required to add mobile messaging capability to their applications. Sending SMS text messages to mobile users, tracking the status of these messages and the ability to receive SMS text messages can greatly improve the value of a VB.Net program. If you are faced with such a requirement, the simplest and most convenient way to add SMS messaging functionality to your system is to use an HTTP SMS gateway, such as Ozeki NG SMS Gateway and to post SMS messages to this gateway using HTTP requests (Figure 1).

Figure 1 - How to send SMS from VB.NET using HTTP requests
If you use HTTP in your VB.Net application, you can also receive SMS messages. You can do this in two ways. You can configure an HTTP Client user in Ozeki NG SMS Gateway to forward incoming SMS messages to your VB.Net program. This solution requires you to be able to process incoming HTTP requests. The second option is to periodically download incoming messages and message delivery reports from Ozeki NG SMS Gateway.

Prerequisites

To be able to send SMS messages from your VB.Net application, you need to download and install Ozeki NG SMS Gateway. After Ozeki NG SMS Gateway has been installed, you can use Microsoft Visual Studio or any other IDE, that let's you develop VB.Net code, to develop your solution. You can use the source code on this webpage to create the functionality. So here is your checklist:

Setting up the system and writing the code

Ozeki NG SMS Gateway can be setup very easily. The SMS quick start guide gives you information on how to install and connect this gateway to the mobile network. After you have installed Ozeki NG SMS Gateway, you need to create a HTTP Server user in it. You can do this by clicking on the "Add new user or application..." link in it's management window. When you create the HTTP Server user, you provide a username and password. You need to use this username and password in the VB.Net source code.

Step 1 - Setup the connection parameters in the VB.Net example code

If you open the VB.Net demo project, you will find the following section:
Dim request As HttpWebRequest
Dim response As HttpWebResponse = Nothing
Dim url As String
Dim username As String = "admin"
Dim password As String = "abc123"
Dim host As String = "http://127.0.0.1:9501"
Dim originator As String = "06201234567"
In this section, you need to provide the username and password you have specified, when you have created the HTTP Server user in Ozeki NG SMS Gateway. If your VB.Net application runs on a different computer, then the one Ozeki NG SMS Gateway is installed on, you need to change the host parameter es well. You can also specify a sender ID value to be used as the originator phone number when you are sending SMS messages.

Step 2 - Compose of the URL

The next section of the VB.Net HTTP SMS example code is the composition of the HTTP URL, that will be used to post your SMS message to the SMS Gateway. This URL contains parameters that are specified in the Ozeki HTTP SMS API specification. Note that when you compose this URL you have to URL encode the values. This is necessary to make sure special characters will not break the HTTP specification.
url = host + "/api?action=sendmessage&" _
& "username=" & HttpUtility.UrlEncode(username) _
& "&password=" + HttpUtility.UrlEncode(password) _
& "&recipient=" + HttpUtility.UrlEncode(tbReceiver.Text) _
& "&messagetype=SMS:TEXT" _
& "&messagedata=" + HttpUtility.UrlEncode(tbMessage.Text) _
& "&originator=" + HttpUtility.UrlEncode(originator) _
& "&serviceprovider=" _
& "&responseformat=html"

Step 3 - Submit the URL

To send your SMS message you need to initiate a HTTP request using the Webrequest VB.Net method. After the request has been sent, you can read the response returned by the SMS gateway using the request.GetResponse() method and you can show the response message in a popup window.
request = DirectCast(WebRequest.Create(url), HttpWebRequest)
Receiving the answer.
response = DirectCast(request.GetResponse(), HttpWebResponse)
Displaying the answer in a pop-up window
MessageBox.Show("Response: " & response.StatusDescription)
As you can see it is very simple to send an SMS message through an HTTP request. All you have to do is understand the HTTP SMS API parameters and you need to send and receive a request using the built in VB.Net methods. Finally take a look at the full source code we used in this article:

Full source code

Please feel free to use and modify the source code sample.

        Dim url As String
        Dim username As String
        Dim password As String
        Dim host As String
        Dim originator As String

        Try

            host = "http://127.0.0.1:9501"
            originator = "06201234567"
            username = "admin"
            password = "abc123"

            url = host + "/api?action=sendmessage&" _
                     & "username=" & HttpUtility.UrlEncode(username) _
                     & "&password=" + HttpUtility.UrlEncode(password) _
                     & "&recipient=" + HttpUtility.UrlEncode(tbReceiver.Text) _
                     & "&messagetype=SMS:TEXT" _
                     & "&messagedata=" + HttpUtility.UrlEncode(tbMessage.Text) _
                     & "&originator=" + HttpUtility.UrlEncode(originator) _
                     & "&serviceprovider=GSMModem1" _
                     & "&responseformat=html"

            request = DirectCast(WebRequest.Create(url), HttpWebRequest)

            response = DirectCast(request.GetResponse(), HttpWebResponse)

            MessageBox.Show("Response: " & response.StatusDescription)

        Catch ex As Exception
        End Try
    End Sub
